I miss being a kid with no stress and worries...but I'm glad that I still get to live and cherish those moments through my motherhood journey! π
Learning and experiencing things through senses is vital during the formative years of a child and is often linked with their development in multiple ways. Watching cartoons, touches two of their senses - Eyes (seeing/watching) and Ears (listening). As a mommy to a five year old, I have personally experienced how these colourfully animated cartoons impact a child (positively) and are an exceptional means of learning communication and boosting curiosity. Of course you have to monitor the daily screen time as a parent to avoid strain on their eyes and other health related issues.
Below are our 5 all time favourite cartoons that are entertaining, educative and impart moral values as well. 'Edutainment' is what I call them! π These are ideal for age group of 2-8 years.
- Peppa Pig: Never ever in my life, I have found pigs so cute and pink in colour as this piggy family! They are the reason why we love muddy puddles and snorting these days.π The best part I liked about this cartoon is that kids pickup foreign English accent pretty well at a young age and come across a myriad of new words at a very young age that helps in building their vocabulary. Every episode is well crafted and fun filled that revolves around kids and their life. Along with fun and entertainment, it teaches them the importance of attending playschool, friendship, family-visiting grandparents, playing in the playground, swimming, bike riding etc. One more peculiar thing about this cartoon that I appreciate is the fact that each friend of this lovable but slightly bossy little Peppa is a different species of animal right from her best friend Suzy sheep to Zoe zebra and many more.
- Dora the Explorer: Dora, this seven yea old Latin American descent girl has helped my child with basic Spanish vocabulary! This Spanish spark has ignited her to learn basic Spanish online and currently, we are on number learning - Uno to Diez. Apart from the basic Spanish words, this is an amazing cartoon for developing cognitive skills of a child with every cue and adventure that Dora embarks on with her monkey friend-Boots. Arriba...we did it...we did it!
- Masha and the Bear: This adventure comedy between cute yet naughty lil Masha and a retired circus Bear living in a tree-house in the forest has made its way to the heart of many adults too! The antics of Masha and the protective nature of the Bear is heart melting! There is a lot to learn from this cartoon about friendship, family, affection, patience, responsibility and happiness - above all.
- Shimmer and Shine: "I'm Shimmer...I'm Shine...your genie's divine...boom zahramay...your best friends are on the way". This magical fantasy series revolves around twin genie sisters in-training trying to fulfill daily three wishes of Leah who is a human. But they often end up with wrong execution owing to their inexperience. Though a magical show, the important lesson the show teaches is that magic is not real and doesn't last without hard-work that one has to put in to sustain. Apparently, this show has stopped airing on Nick Jr as Nickelodeon has reportedly decided to wrap the production for unknown reasons.
- Paw Patrol: Six brave puppies and their tech savvy captain-Ryder are on a rescue mission to safeguard the people of the Adventure Bay community. It highlight's the role of community helpers and teaches the importance of being vigilant. With every rescue operation, it teaches the art of being tactful and importance of an alert mind without giving into panic. It's a pawsome show!
Currently, we are also watching 'My Little Pony' and are drawn towards the magical world of Unicornsπ¦ and learning valuable lessons on Friendship. π
