Food Category: Healthy Protein Rich Appetizers
Preparation Time: 1 Hour (approximately)
Ingredients:
- California Tuna Can - 185 gms
- Chickpeas - 100 gms
- Onion - 1 medium size
- Carrot - 1 small size
- Green Chilly - 5-6 (or as per the taste)
- Coriander leaves - Handful
- Curry Leaves - Handful (optional)
- Garlic - 4-5 cloves
- Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
- Pepper Powder - As per the taste
- Red Chilly Powder - 1 tsp (optional)
- Fish Masala - 1 tsp (optional)
- Salt - as per taste
- Oil - 4 tsp
- Egg - 1 (optional)
Method:
- Soak the chickpeas overnight and the following morning, boil it and grind into a smooth paste.
- Grate the carrot and finely chop the onion and green chilly.
- Pour 1.5-2 tsp oil in a wok or a pan and add cumin seeds followed by curry leaves, garlic and green chilly. Curry leaves can be added at this stage or later along with coriander.
- Sauté it on a low flame.
- Add finely chopped onion followed by grated carrot and chickpeas paste. Sauté it for about 5-10 minutes to allow the rawness to subside.
- Add salt and a pinch of turmeric powder and keep stirring to avoid sticking to the pan.
- Add the Tuna and mix it well.
- Add the fish masala (optional), pepper powder as per the taste and chilly powder (optional). Lastly, add the coriander leaves at this stage.
- Mix and blend everything well on a medium flame for approximately 10 minutes and allow it to cool a little once you turn off the flame.
- Optional: You can use this time to make some pudina (mint) chutney and slice some onions, add a dash of vinegar - the best combination ever to have the Tuna Croquettes, giving a ditch to all the regular sauces.
- Once the above mixture is cool, shape it into round or cylindrical shape and refrigerate for 30 minutes or an hour.
- Heat some oil in a frying pan or a wok, dip the croquettes into a well beaten egg (optional) and shallow fry till golden brown.
- Serve it hot with pudina (mint) chutney and sliced onions.
Garnish it with some coriander-mint leaves, lemon and chilly and relish it hot.
