Lavasa - a picturesque, planned city in nature's lap near Pune has a long tale of its own! Although currently, it is into ruins due to lack of proper maintenance (owing to political and environmental conflict that engulfed the city), the city has a striking resemblance to Portofino - a small town in Italy. In fact its architectural structure is a replica of the town Portofino and is an ideal spot for a weekend getaway!
Lavasa |
We visited Lavasa in 2017 for BIRD's (Bacaim's Invictus Road Disciples) second anniversary ride.
Visit their fb page https://www.facebook.com/BIRD-Bacaims-Invictus-Road-Disciples-653997551406413/?ref=page_internal for more details.
Getting There:
Road: Lavasa is approximately 190 kms (approx. 4 hours) from Mumbai and can be best explored through road, either by a motorbike or a car with a small refreshment break in between.
The ride that gives you an adrenaline rush 😉 |
My first ever 'long distance ride as a pillion' was to Lavasa from Mumbai and oh boy! I was enthralled by the adventure! A ride of approx. 4 hours from Mumbai to Lavasa with a quick halt for lunch in between was one hell of an experience to be cherished forever. The winding roads with a breathtaking view are bound to give you an adrenaline rush! I have been always avoiding long distance bike rides owing to severe backaches but this was worth it!
Accommodation:
A plenty of private villas and hotels are available for accommodation and can be booked through various platforms. However, if you have a big group, its wise to book a private villa as its more reasonable.
Our stay for the weekend |
Food:
If staying in a private villa, local markets are quite accessible for buying groceries or grabbing a bite. Also, there are good restaurants inside the city that one can explore especially the Lakeside Promenade at Lavasa is a foodie's aboard with many restaurants serving a wide variety of cuisine.
Things to Do:
Although Lavasa is popular for watersport related activities due to its strategic location on the banks of Warasgaon lake, you will find that not all watersport activities are operational always. Hence, the best thing to do is just seize the moment, and make the most of it. Also, needless to mention, capture some good moments for your social media handles and also for a walk down the memory lane. 😊
The Happy BIRD Squad! 😊 |
